# Goey Pictures > Goey Pictures is an excursion photography studio in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Its photographers ride along on day trips — Saona Island, Bávaro Beach, the Hoyo Azul cenote at Scape Park, Los Haitises, Samaná, Isla Catalina, Macao and the other destinations listed below — and publish each excursion as an online gallery. Guests open theirs with the access code on the bracelet or printed QR card handed to them during the excursion. The site is published in Spanish (default), English, Portuguese, Russian, French, Italian, Ukrainian, German, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Catalan and Czech. Studio address: Av. Estados Unidos #83, Punta Cana, República Dominicana. Support email: help@goey.do. Galleries are usually ready the day after the excursion. Access needs no app and no account: enter the code from the bracelet or printed QR card, scan the QR with a phone camera, or open the link sent by text or email. A lost code or bracelet is recoverable without a human — at https://goey.do/en/find a guest picks the days they were on an excursion and takes a selfie, and the face search returns the photos they appear in. Goey Pictures can also locate the gallery from the guest's name, excursion and date over WhatsApp. A gallery can be bought whole for one flat price or photo by photo; the exact price for that gallery is shown once the code is entered. Payment is by card or PayPal, handled by the payment providers — Goey Pictures never sees or stores card numbers. Purchased photos are delivered in full resolution with no watermark, ready to print or share. Goey Pictures previously published at goeypictures.com, which now redirects to https://goey.do; the two names refer to the same business. It is also listed on TripAdvisor (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g3176298-d15782945-Reviews-Goey_Pictures-Bavaro_Punta_Cana_La_Altagracia_Province_Dominican_Republic.html) and on Google Maps. ## Key pages - [Home — find your excursion photos](https://goey.do/en): Find and download your excursion photos from Punta Cana and Saona Island. Three effortless steps between your excursion and reliving it forever. 1) We shoot your day. — Our photographers capture your excursion — the catamaran, the buggies, the natural pool. You just enjoy it. 2) We develop every frame. — Every photo is edited and checked by our team, and we put your most beautiful, emotional shots first. 3) Your gallery opens. — Scan your bracelet, type your code or use a selfie. Keep the ones you love, in full quality, forever. Do I need my access code? No. A selfie is enough — that is exactly what this page is for. If you do have a code, it opens your photos directly. Lost the code or bracelet? Our photographers are on the day trips that leave Punta Cana and Bávaro every morning: the catamaran to Saona Island, the buggy and quad tours, the party boat and the snorkelling trips, Hoyo Azul at Scape Park, and the beaches at Bávaro and Macao. If we photographed you on one of them, your photos are waiting here — enter the access code from your bracelet, card or receipt, and if you have lost it we can still find you. Selfie search, step by step: 1) Pick your excursion day. Not sure? Choose a few days around it. 2) Take one selfie. Face the light, no sunglasses or cap, just you. 3) See only your photos. Choose the ones you love. Looking is free. What if I don’t know which day I was photographed? Pick the day you think it was, then add up to two days either side — you can search up to five days at once. If none of them work, message us and we'll track it down. If you truly can’t say, press “I’m not sure which day” and we’ll search the most recent days we photographed. How long does it take? Usually under a minute. It can take a little longer when many people are searching at once, so keep the page open while we look. What happens to my selfie? It is used only to match your face to your photos, and it is never shared or sold. It is stored securely for 90 days so we can check new uploads for you, and then permanently deleted. Our team may look at your selfie to find your photos by hand. You can ask us to delete it sooner at any time. A Keepsake Photo is one digital photo from your Goey Pictures excursion gallery, from any moment of the day: the natural pool, the beach or the catamaran. It is priced per photo, so you pay only for the shots you actually want to keep, and you can add as many of them as you like. You buy it inside your own gallery, not on this page. Open the gallery with the access code from the bracelet or printed QR card you were given during the excursion, pick the photos you want and pay by card or PayPal. The price of each photo is shown there, alongside the packages that cover all of your photos, so you can compare both before you decide. Nothing is printed and nothing is posted: each photo is a file, ready to download from your gallery as soon as the payment goes through. If you would rather hold one in your hands, the same photo can also go on a mug or into the photo album. Full details and how to order: https://goey.do/en/products/keepsake-photo-download ### Premium Photo Price: $15.00 USD. A Premium Photo is a single digital photo from your Goey Pictures excursion gallery, meant for the best shot of the day: the one of you, or of the two of you together, that you will want to keep long after the trip. It is priced per photo, a step above a Keepsake Photo, and you pay only for the photos you choose. It is a file, not a print: nothing is posted, and the photo is ready to download from your gallery as soon as the payment goes through. If one frame deserves more than a screen, the same photo can also go on a mug or into the photo album. Full details and how to order: https://goey.do/en/products/premium-photo-download ### Photo Mug Price: $35.00 USD. The Photo Mug is a ceramic mug printed with one photo from your Goey Pictures excursion gallery. It costs $35 in US dollars and covers a single photo, which you choose when you order. There are no size or colour options. Open your gallery with the access code from the bracelet or printed QR card you were given during the excursion, pick the photo you want on the mug, and pay by card or PayPal. Each mug is printed after the order is placed, from the full-resolution file, so none are held in stock and the photo on it is yours rather than a sample. We confirm production and delivery details for your address by email or WhatsApp once the order is placed. If you would rather have the same photo on the wall, it is also sold as a print and as a framed print. If you are still in Punta Cana you can choose hand-over at checkout instead. We print it here and give it to you at your hotel or on the boat before you fly home. No postage. Full details and how to order: https://goey.do/en/products/photo-mug ### Travel Album Price: $130.00 USD. The Album is a hardcover 6×8 inch photo book made from twelve photos out of your Goey Pictures excursion gallery. It costs $130 in US dollars, and that one price covers the twelve photos and the binding — there are no sizes or finishes to choose between. You pick the twelve frames yourself. Open your gallery with the access code from the bracelet or printed QR card you were given during the excursion, choose the photos, and pay by card or PayPal. The checkout will not complete until all twelve are selected, because that is exactly what the book holds. The album is bound after you order, from the full-resolution files, so none are held in stock and no two are the same. Being made to order, it takes longer to produce than a single print; we confirm production and delivery details for your address by email or WhatsApp once the order is placed. If you would rather have a few loose photographs than a bound book, the same photos are also sold as individual prints. If you are still in Punta Cana you can choose hand-over at checkout instead. We print it here and give it to you at your hotel or on the boat before you fly home. No postage. Full details and how to order: https://goey.do/en/products/photo-album ## Frequently asked questions ### How do I find my photos? Enter the access code from your bracelet, printed QR card, or the link we texted or emailed you — right here or at goey.do. You can also scan the QR with your phone camera and your gallery opens instantly. No app, no account. ### How long until my photos are ready? Most galleries are ready the day after your excursion. If your gallery isn't ready yet, message us on WhatsApp with your code and we'll check for you. ### I lost my code or bracelet — can I still get my photos? Yes. Your photos are never lost. Message us on WhatsApp with your name, excursion, and date, and we'll find your gallery and send you a fresh link. ### How much do the photos cost? Buy the full package with every photo for one flat price, or pick individual photos à la carte. You'll see the exact price for your gallery the moment you enter your code — never a surprise. As of publishing, the full gallery pack is $140 USD, or buy individual photos from $15 USD for the first photo (then $10 USD each) — the same figures published in the site's OfferCatalog structured data. The exact total for a specific gallery is always confirmed once the access code is entered. ### How do I pay, and is it safe? We accept secure card and PayPal payments, processed by trusted providers — we never see or store your card number. ### What quality are the photos? Are they watermarked? Every photo is taken by a professional photographer and delivered in full high resolution with no watermark once purchased, ready to print or share. ### What languages do you speak? Our team helps you in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Russian, French, Italian, Ukrainian, German, and Dutch — just message us in whichever you prefer. ### Is my gallery private? Completely. Your gallery opens only with your personal code, and we never share or sell your photos. They're yours alone. ### Why do you have my name, email, or photo? On your excursion we note a few details (like your name and a reference photo) only so we can match the right photos to you and send your link. We use them to deliver your memories — nothing else. ### What if I'm not happy with my photos? We want you to love them. If something's wrong, message us on WhatsApp and we'll make it right — re-deliver, fix, or refund. ### How do I download my photos, and can I get them again later? Once you've purchased, your photos download in full resolution straight to your phone or computer — and your gallery link keeps working, so you can come back and download them again anytime. ### We were a group — do we all share one gallery? Each person gets their own private gallery for their photos. If your group was photographed together, scan your own bracelet or code to see your set — and message us anytime and we'll help reunite a whole group's memories. ### What if I can't find myself in the photos? Message us on WhatsApp with your name, excursion, and date, and we'll search every set from that day to find your photos. In the rare case there genuinely aren't any of you, you pay nothing — you're only ever charged for photos you actually receive. ### Do I need to create an account to buy? No account, no password, no sign-up. Open your gallery with your code, pick your photos, and pay by card or PayPal as a guest. You're done in a couple of taps. ### Can anyone find my gallery on Google? No. Your gallery isn't listed in any search engine and isn't shared publicly — it opens only with your personal code. We don't index it, so the only people who see your photos are the people you give the link to. ### What if I change my mind after paying? Your purchase is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. If you're not happy for any reason, message us on WhatsApp and we'll make it right — re-deliver, fix the issue, or refund you. No drama. ### When and how do I get my photos after I pay? Right away. The moment your payment goes through, your photos unlock and download in full resolution — no watermark — straight to your phone or computer. Galleries are usually ready the day after your excursion, and your link keeps working so you can grab them again later. ## Guide highlights ### Where to Stay in Punta Cana: Cap Cana vs Bávaro vs Uvero Alto Punta Cana is not one place but a string of distinct resort zones, and where you base yourself shapes your beach, your nightlife, and how easy your excursions are. The three big choices are Cap Cana, Bávaro, and Uvero Alto. Here is how they compare so you can match the zone to your trip. 1. The quick map: From the airport, Cap Cana is closest at roughly 10 to 15 minutes, Bávaro is about 20 to 30 minutes, and Uvero Alto is the farthest north at around 35 to 45 minutes. That drive time is a real factor if you arrive late or leave early. Think of it as a spectrum: Cap Cana is upscale and polished, Bávaro is lively and central, and Uvero Alto is quiet and remote. None is wrong; they simply suit different travelers. 2. Cap Cana: upscale, calm, and close to the action: Cap Cana is the luxury end of Punta Cana, with high-end resorts, a marina lined with upscale dining, golf, and the postcard-perfect Juanillo beach. The vibe is elegant and quiet, which makes it a favorite for couples and honeymooners. For excursions it is unbeatably placed: Scape Park and the Hoyo Azul cenote are right on its doorstep, so adventure and nature days start with almost no drive. 3. Bávaro: the lively, excursion-friendly heart: Bávaro is the most popular and most central zone, with the longest stretch of developed white-sand beach, the widest range of all-inclusive resorts, and a social, entertainment-rich atmosphere. El Cortecito is great for casual seafood and a taste of local life. It is also the easiest base for excursions, with the most operators, the shortest transfers to most tours, and quick access to a Saona Island day trip. If you want to do a lot and stay central, Bávaro is the practical pick. 4. Uvero Alto: remote, wild, and get-away-from-it-all: Uvero Alto sits further north and trades convenience for seclusion. The beaches feel wilder with more surf, the resorts are spread out among coconut groves, and there are almost no vendors or day visitors. It is where many adults-only and tranquility-seeking travelers go. It is the closest base to the surf and wide sands of Macao Beach, so it suits beach-walkers and surfers. The trade-off is longer drives to most excursions, so plan a couple of bigger trips rather than many short ones. 5. Which zone suits you?: Pick Cap Cana for an upscale, calm trip with easy access to Scape Park and a refined dining scene. Pick Bávaro for the most beach, the most resorts, the most nightlife, and the easiest excursion logistics. Pick Uvero Alto for quiet, space, surf, and a true escape. Whichever you choose, pre-book your airport transfer; demand is high and booking ahead locks your price and vehicle size, especially for the longer run out to Uvero Alto. Read the full guide: https://goey.do/en/guides/where-to-stay-punta-cana-cap-cana-bavaro-uvero-alto ### How to Get Your Photos From a QR Bracelet On many Punta Cana excursions you are handed a wristband or small card with a QR code and a short access code. That little band is the key to all the photos taken of you that day. Here is exactly how to turn it into a downloaded gallery, step by step. 1. What the QR bracelet is: The wristband or card carries a QR code and a short access code (something like ABC12345). It links only to the photos of you and your group, kept in a private gallery, so there is no account to create and no password to remember. Keep the band on or photograph it early in the day. The code is also usually printed on any paper receipt you were given, which is a handy backup. 2. Scanning the code: Open your phone's camera and point it at the QR code. Most modern phones detect it instantly and show a tap-to-open link; tapping it takes you straight to your gallery. If scanning will not work, you can type the short access code into the box on the Goey Pictures home page instead. Either route opens the same private gallery. 3. Previewing and downloading: Inside the gallery you can preview every shot, watch the auto-generated highlight reel, and choose the whole set or just your favorites. Payment is by card or PayPal and takes a moment. The instant payment clears, every photo downloads in full high resolution to your phone, tablet, or computer, and you also receive a backup download link by email and WhatsApp so you never lose access. 4. If the QR will not scan or the code is lost: Clean your camera lens, hold steady, and make sure there is enough light; a slightly creased or wet band can be harder to read. If it still fails, type the printed code manually. If the band and code are truly gone, message the team on WhatsApp with the date of your excursion, the tour you took, and roughly when you were photographed. Galleries are organized by tour and date, so you can usually be matched quickly. Our guide on finding your Punta Cana excursion photos covers recovery in more detail. 5. Traveling with family or a group?: If your friends or family were handed bracelets too, everyone photographed together on the same excursion usually shares one gallery — any one of you can scan a band or type a code and see the whole group's photos, then split the cost or have one person buy for everyone. Want to see what a real gallery looks like before you commit? Our demo gallery shows the exact preview, highlight reel and download flow with no purchase required. If a photographer captured your group on a Saona trip or catamaran cruise, the natural next question is what the photos will cost. Pricing varies by how many photos you want and the operator, but there are clear patterns. Here is a realistic picture of what excursion photos cost in Punta Cana and what you actually get. 1. The typical price ranges: Most excursion photo packages are priced per gallery rather than per hour, since the photographer rides along with the whole tour. A handful of individual digital photos commonly runs in the lower tens of US dollars, while a full set covering your entire day usually lands in the range of roughly 40 to 100 US dollars depending on the operator and the number of images. Buying the complete gallery is almost always better value per photo than picking a few singles, which is why most groups choose the full set once they preview the day. 2. What changes the price: The main drivers are how many photos you keep, whether you want the full-resolution downloads, and any extras such as a highlight video. Bigger groups sometimes pay a little more simply because more frames are taken across more people. Excursion photos are generally far cheaper than booking a dedicated private vacation photo session, because the cost is spread across everyone on the tour rather than paying for an exclusive photographer's time. 3. What you get for the money: A good package delivers full high-resolution digital images you can print and share, not just small previews. With Goey Pictures, paying unlocks every photo in full quality with instant download, plus a backup link by email and WhatsApp so you never lose access. Many galleries also include an auto-generated highlight reel of your day at no extra effort, which is a nice keepsake for sharing. 4. Avoiding surprises: Before you commit, confirm whether the price is for a few photos or the whole set, whether downloads are full resolution, and how you will receive them. With a QR-code gallery you can preview everything first and pay only for what you want, with no pressure on the boat. If you are weighing whether the photos are worth it at all, see our guide on whether vacation excursion photos are worth it. After a great day on Saona or a catamaran, you preview a gallery of professional shots and have to decide: are these worth buying, or is my phone good enough? It is a fair question. Here is an honest look at when excursion photos are absolutely worth it and when you can skip them. 1. Why they are usually worth it: The single biggest reason is that everyone is in the photo, including the person who normally holds the phone. You come home with real images of your whole group together, not just shots one person took of everyone else. A professional also catches the moments you cannot photograph yourself, such as you mid-jump off the catamaran, wading out to the Natural Pool, or a candid laugh on the beach, in good light and without a wet phone in your hand. 2. The quality and convenience gap: Excursion photographers know the spots, the light, and how to frame a group quickly, so the keeper rate is far higher than rushed phone snaps between activities. The images are full resolution, ready to print, and free of saltwater smudges and harsh midday glare. There is also no phone risk: you are not fumbling a phone near the water or asking a stranger to take a shot that ends up blurry. You simply enjoy the day and the photos arrive in a gallery. 3. When you can skip them: If it is a quick, casual outing, you are traveling solo and happy with self-portraits, or you genuinely prefer your own candid phone style, you may not need a package. The same goes if your budget is tight and you would rather spend it on another excursion. Because most galleries let you preview first and buy only what you want, you can always look before deciding, with no obligation. 4. Getting the most value: If you do buy, the full gallery is usually better value per photo than a few singles, as our guide on what excursion photos cost explains. Dressing with photos in mind and relaxing into candid moments raises how many shots you will love. For a once-in-a-trip experience like Saona, a honeymoon catamaran, or a family milestone, most people find professional photos are the souvenir they are happiest they bought. The day trip is long: hotel pickup is early, the drive from Bávaro to the boats at Bayahíbe takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, and you are back 10 to 12 hours after you left. The classic format is a speedboat out and a slower catamaran back with music and an open bar, usually with a stop at the Natural Pool, a shallow sandbar where starfish rest on the sand. On the island you get 3 to 4 hours of warm, calm water on the sheltered Caribbean side, palm shade and a Dominican buffet lunch. The calmest seas and clearest water come from December to April, and Saona's west-facing beaches usually see little of the sargassum seaweed that reaches Bávaro from May to September. It is a protected park: starfish stay in the water, and nobody stands on coral. Our photographers ride along on the Saona day trips we work with and shoot the whole day, from the beach to the catamaran home. What we capture here: The Natural Pool sandbar, with the starfish left in the water; Speedboat out, catamaran back with music and an open bar; Palm shade, white sand and warm, shallow water; The long day in one gallery, from the pier to the ride home. What is a Saona Island day trip like? It is a full day by boat from Bayahíbe to a palm-covered island inside Cotubanamá National Park. The classic format is a speedboat out and a catamaran back with music and an open bar, usually with a stop at the Natural Pool sandbar. How long does a Saona excursion take? A full day: you are back 10 to 12 hours after pickup. The drive from Bávaro to the boats at Bayahíbe alone takes about 1 to 1.5 hours each way. When is the best time to visit Saona? December to April brings the calmest seas and clearest water. Saona's west-facing beaches usually see little of the sargassum seaweed that reaches Bávaro from May to September. Can you pick up the starfish at the Natural Pool? No. Saona is a protected national park, and lifting a starfish out of the water can kill it, so it stays where it is and the photo is framed around it. How do I get my photos from a Saona trip? Your photographer gives you a code on a wristband, a printed QR card or a link we send, and entering it at goey.do opens your gallery. No code? A selfie search matches your face against the photos from the days you choose. Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/saona ### Evolution Park Evolution Adventure Park is a privately run adventure park inland from the Bávaro resorts, between Higüey and Macao. A visit is sold as a package with hotel pickup: guided buggy rides on red-dirt tracks, a cave linked to Taíno history, a swim in a cold freshwater cenote, a coffee and cocoa plantation stop, a farm, and a sanctuary where squirrel monkeys climb onto your shoulders. Expect about 4 hours in the park, or around 5 hours with transfers; the drive is roughly 30 to 50 minutes each way. It runs year-round, and rain only stops it when a storm makes it unsafe. Wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy and closed shoes. Buggy drivers must be 18 and hold a licence, children under 6 can't ride, and the buggies aren't for pregnant visitors or anyone with back or neck problems. Cameras are allowed but have to be put away for some activities, and there are lockers. Our photographers are with you on the Evolution Park trips we work with. What we capture here: Buggies on muddy red-dirt tracks; The cold, clear cenote swim; Squirrel monkeys climbing onto your shoulders; Mud-splattered grins while your phone is locked away. What is Evolution Park? Evolution Adventure Park is a privately run park inland from Bávaro. A visit combines buggy rides, a cave, a cenote swim, a plantation stop, a farm and a squirrel-monkey sanctuary. How long does Evolution Park take? About 4 hours in the park, or around 5 hours with hotel transfers. The drive is roughly 30 to 50 minutes each way. Are there age limits at Evolution Park? Yes. Buggy drivers must be 18 and hold a licence, and children under 6 can't ride; the buggies are also not for pregnant visitors or anyone with back or neck problems. What should you wear to Evolution Park? Clothes you don't mind getting muddy and closed shoes. Bring swimwear for the cenote. How do I get my photos from Evolution Park? It is public: by Dominican law the first 60 metres of coast belong to everyone, so you can walk along even the most exclusive resort frontage, although loungers and resort grounds are private. Non-guests use public access points such as Bibijagua, Los Corales and El Cortecito. A reef offshore keeps the water mostly calm, turquoise and shallow, which makes it good for families on quiet days. Lifeguards work mainly along resort stretches, so respect the flags where they are posted. The driest months are December to April, while sargassum seaweed is most likely from May to September; one bay can be clean while the next is covered, and resorts clean their stretch every morning. The softest light is early in the morning and in the last hour before sunset. Our photographers work the beach on the Bávaro boat and horseback trips we work with. What we capture here: The classic palm-lined turquoise frame; Golden light a few steps from the resorts; Calm, shallow water for family portraits; Horse rides and boat trips along the shore. Is Bávaro Beach public? Yes. By Dominican law the first 60 metres of coast belong to everyone, so you can walk the whole beach, although loungers and resort grounds are private. Where can non-guests get onto Bávaro Beach? At public access points such as Bibijagua, Los Corales and El Cortecito. When is sargassum seaweed worst on Bávaro Beach? It is most likely from May to September. One bay can be clean while the next is covered, and resorts clean their stretch every morning. When is the best time of day for photos on Bávaro Beach? Early in the morning and in the last hour before sunset, when the light is soft and the beach is quiet. How do I get my photos from Bávaro Beach? Your photographer gives you a code on a wristband, a printed QR card or a link we send, and entering it at goey.do opens your gallery. No code? Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/bavaro ### Saona Natural Pool The Natural Pool (Piscina Natural) is a large, shallow sandbank off Playa Palmilla, on the mainland side of Cotubanamá National Park between Bayahíbe and Saona. A coral terrace holds back the open sea, so the water over the white sand is only about 0.6 to 1.2 metres deep, and boats anchor a few hundred metres from the shore while everyone wades in. It is a stop on nearly every Saona day trip rather than a trip of its own: the drive from Bávaro to the boats at Bayahíbe takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, and the pool usually gets 20 to 40 minutes on the way out or on the way back. Starfish rest on the sand, and they must stay in the water: lifting one out can kill it. Non-swimmers should stay near the boat or wear a life vest, since the edges get deeper. The water is calmest and clearest from December to April, and the pool is busiest when many boats arrive together. Our photographers are on the Saona day trips we work with, so the stop ends up in your gallery. What we capture here: The 'standing in the middle of the sea' moment; Starfish resting on the bright white sand; Clear turquoise water over a shallow sandbank; The catamaran at anchor and everyone in the water. What is the Natural Pool at Saona? It is a large, shallow sandbank off Playa Palmilla in Cotubanamá National Park, where Saona boats anchor so everyone can wade. A coral terrace holds back the open sea, so the water is only about 0.6 to 1.2 metres deep. Is the Natural Pool a separate trip? No, it is a stop on nearly every Saona day trip. The pool usually gets 20 to 40 minutes, on the way out or on the way back. Can you touch the starfish at the Natural Pool? Look, but leave them in the water. Lifting a starfish out can kill it, and the pool is inside a protected national park. Is the Natural Pool safe for non-swimmers? Mostly, since you stand on sand in shallow water. The edges get deeper, so non-swimmers should stay near the boat or wear a life vest. How do I get my photos from the Natural Pool? Your photographer gives you a code on a wristband, a printed QR card or a link we send, and entering it at goey.do opens your gallery. No code? There is no separate ticket: you reach it with a Scape Park admission, which includes hotel pickup from most Bávaro and Punta Cana hotels, and the drive is about 30 to 45 minutes. From the park it is a walk of about 15 minutes through the forest. You can swim: lifeguards are on duty, flotation vests are free, and the water is noticeably colder than the sea. The paths are rugged and uneven, so they are not ideal for strollers or reduced mobility. Plan on half a day or more, since the ticket also covers other trails and activities. The park opens at 9:00, and the pool is quietest right after opening, before the groups arrive. Being inland fresh water, it never gets sargassum seaweed. Please note: Scape Park does not allow professional photo or video equipment or drones, so we do not photograph here. What you'll find here: A turquoise pool at the foot of a ~75 m cliff; A forest walk in on rugged paths; Cold, clear fresh water with lifeguards on duty; Quiet water right after the 9:00 opening. What is Hoyo Azul? Hoyo Azul is a freshwater cenote at the foot of a roughly 75-metre limestone cliff inside Scape Park, at Cap Cana. It is reached by a forest walk of about 15 minutes. Can you swim in Hoyo Azul? Yes. Lifeguards are on duty, flotation vests are free, and the water is noticeably colder than the sea. When is the best time to visit Hoyo Azul? Right after the park opens at 9:00, before the groups arrive. It is worth a visit year-round, and being inland fresh water it never gets sargassum seaweed. Can a photographer come with me to Hoyo Azul? No. Scape Park does not allow professional photo or video equipment or drones, so we do not photograph here. You see it by boat: tours leave from Sabana de la Mar or Samaná and weave between the islets for 2 to 3 hours, with short, mostly flat walks from the dock into caves such as San Gabriel and La Línea, where guides show you the drawings. Please don't touch the rock art. From Bávaro it is about 2 to 2.5 hours by road to Sabana de la Mar, and a day trip from Punta Cana takes about 11 to 13 hours in all. The park is home to the world's largest population of the critically endangered Ridgway's hawk, and pelicans and frigatebirds are everywhere. Samaná has no real dry season: February to April is the least rainy stretch, and September to November is the wettest. No excursion we photograph goes here, so photos at Los Haitises are a private shoot, arranged in advance. What we capture here: Forested limestone islets rising from the bay; Mangrove channels seen from the boat; Caves with ancient Taíno rock art; Pelicans, frigatebirds and the rare Ridgway's hawk. What is Los Haitises National Park? It is a national park on Samaná Bay of forested limestone islets, mangroves and caves with Taíno rock art. You see it by boat, with short walks into the caves. It is reached by a 2.5 km trail from the village of El Limón, on foot in about 40 to 60 minutes or partly on horseback; the horses stop above the falls, and everyone walks down the steep final steps. The trail is hilly and often muddy, so it takes moderate fitness and good shoes. From Punta Cana it is a full-day trip of about 12 hours: about 1.5 to 2 hours by road to Miches or Sabana de la Mar, then about an hour by boat across Samaná Bay, often combined with Cayo Levantado. Around 80,000 people visit the falls each year. February to April is the least rainy stretch and the trail is firmest; September to November brings the most water but also the most mud. Take care near the fall after heavy rain. No excursion we photograph goes here, so photos at El Limón are a private shoot, arranged in advance. What we capture here: The 40-metre fall into its pool; The trail through the Samaná rainforest; Cool swims at the foot of the fall; Green foliage framing the water. What is El Limón waterfall? February to April, when it rains least and the trail is firmest. September to November brings the most water and the most mud. Can I have photos taken at El Limón? Yes, as a private shoot arranged in advance. No excursion we photograph goes here. Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/el-limon-waterfall ### Samaná Whale Watching Every winter, North Atlantic humpback whales come to Samaná Bay to mate and give birth, and licensed boats take visitors out to watch them during the official season, which ran from 15 January to 31 March in 2026. The peak is February to early March. Researchers have identified more than 250 individual whales in the bay from their tail markings; the thousands usually quoted refer to the whole marine sanctuary, most of them far offshore on the Silver Bank. The sanctuary was the first one for humpbacks in the North Atlantic. The rules keep boats at least 50 metres from adult whales and 80 metres from a mother and calf, with no more than three boats per group, and swimming with the whales is not allowed. From Punta Cana it is a full day of 10 to 14 hours: about 1.5 to 2 hours by road to Miches or Sabana de la Mar, then a boat across the bay, usually with Cayo Levantado or El Limón. The water can be choppy, so take seasickness tablets beforehand. No excursion we photograph goes here, so photos are a private shoot, arranged in advance. What we capture here: Tail flukes and blows across Samaná Bay; Breaching humpbacks at a respectful distance; Mothers and calves in their winter nursery; The boat, the bay and the hills of Samaná. The public beach is on its western side, with white sand and calm, shallow turquoise water; the rest of the island is a resort that day visitors can't enter. It became known as 'Bacardí Island' after a rum commercial was filmed there in the 1970s. Most visitors come for a beach stop of 2 to 3 hours with lunch, as part of a full-day Samaná trip from Punta Cana that usually includes whale watching or El Limón: about 1.5 to 2 hours by road to Miches or Sabana de la Mar, then a boat across the bay. From Samaná town, a water taxi takes 10 to 15 minutes. The beach gets crowded on days when cruise ships call. February to April is the least rainy stretch. No excursion we photograph goes here, so photos at Cayo Levantado are a private shoot, arranged in advance. What we capture here: The palm-fringed 'Bacardí Island' look; White sand and calm turquoise shallows; Leaning coconut palms against the bay; The boat ride across Samaná Bay. What is Cayo Levantado? It is a small island in Samaná Bay, only about 0.9 by 0.5 km, with a public beach on its western side and a resort on the rest. When is Cayo Levantado least crowded? On days when no cruise ship calls. February to April is also the least rainy stretch. Can I have photos taken at Cayo Levantado? Yes, as a private shoot arranged in advance. No excursion we photograph goes here. Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/cayo-levantado ### Catalina Island Isla Catalina is a 9.6 km² island about 2.4 km off La Romana, with no permanent residents. It is its own protected area, the Isla Catalina Natural Monument, run by the Ministry of Environment together with Central Romana, and it is a separate place from Saona. People come for the reefs: The Wall, where the reef drops away to 30 or 40 metres, and The Aquarium, a shallower coral garden full of fish, with visibility usually around 10 to 20 metres. Many catamaran trips make only one snorkel stop, so check which one yours visits. From Bávaro it is about 1 to 1.5 hours by road to the boats, then 30 to 45 minutes across, and the whole trip takes about 8 to 10 hours. It is usually quieter than Saona, except on days when a cruise ship calls. The calmest water comes from December to April. In 2007 divers found Captain Kidd's abandoned ship in shallow water off the island, now an underwater museum. Our photographers are on the Catalina day trip we work with. What we capture here: A rugged island with no permanent residents; The Wall, where the reef drops into deep blue water; The Aquarium, a shallow coral garden full of fish; Beach time and the boat ride between reef stops. What is Isla Catalina? It is a 9.6 km² island off La Romana with no permanent residents, protected as the Isla Catalina Natural Monument. It is a separate place from Saona and is known for reef snorkelling. Is Catalina Island good for snorkelling? Yes, it is one of the best snorkelling day trips from Punta Cana. Visibility is usually around 10 to 20 metres, over The Wall drop-off and The Aquarium coral garden. Saona or Catalina: which should I choose? Choose Catalina for snorkelling and a quieter island, and Saona for the long beach day and the Natural Pool. Catalina is also the shorter day, about 8 to 10 hours in total. How long does a Catalina trip take from Punta Cana? About 8 to 10 hours in total. It is about 1 to 1.5 hours by road to the boats, then 30 to 45 minutes across. How do I get my photos from Catalina Island? Your photographer gives you a code on a wristband, a printed QR card or a link we send, and entering it at goey.do opens your gallery. No code? A selfie search matches your face against the photos from the days you choose. Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/isla-catalina ### Bayahíbe Bayahíbe is a small town on the Caribbean coast of La Altagracia province, founded as a fishing village in 1874 and now the main departure point for boats to Saona, the Natural Pool and Catalina. It sits right beside Cotubanamá National Park, about 69 km from Bávaro, which is about 1 to 1.5 hours by road with hotel pickups. Most visitors only pass through the pier in the morning, when the tour boats leave, but the village itself is worth an hour: painted wooden fishing boats, a calm public beach and sheltered water that sees far less sargassum seaweed than Bávaro. The dry scrub around the village is the only place in the world where the Bayahíbe rose grows, a pink-flowered cactus that has been the national flower since 2011. Off nearby Dominicus, cannons and an anchor from Spanish galleons lost in 1724 form an underwater museum that snorkellers can reach. Our photographers meet the Saona and Catalina trips we work with here. What we capture here: Painted wooden fishing boats in the bay; The morning rush at the pier as the boats leave; Calm, clear water on the sheltered Caribbean side; The first photos of your Saona or Catalina day. What is Bayahíbe? It is a small town on the Caribbean coast, founded as a fishing village in 1874. Today it is the main departure point for boats to Saona, the Natural Pool and Catalina. How far is Bayahíbe from Punta Cana? About 69 km from Bávaro, which is about 1 to 1.5 hours by road with hotel pickups. Is Bayahíbe worth visiting in its own right? For an hour or two, yes: painted fishing boats, a calm public beach and sheltered water. It sees far less sargassum seaweed than Bávaro. What is the Bayahíbe rose? A pink-flowered cactus that grows wild only in the dry scrub around Bayahíbe. It has been the Dominican Republic's national flower since 2011. How do I get my photos from Bayahíbe? Find your photos: https://goey.do/en/destinations/bayahibe ### Macao Beach Macao is a wide, mostly undeveloped public beach facing the open Atlantic at the north end of the Punta Cana coast, about 20 to 30 minutes by road from the Bávaro hotels. There is no wall of resorts behind it, just sand, low headlands, surf schools and small restaurants serving fresh fish. Since 2022 it has a paved access road, parking and restrooms, and around 200,000 people visit it a year. Most visitors see it as a stop of 20 to 60 minutes on a buggy tour, others come for half a day or a surf lesson. This is a real Atlantic beach: waves and currents can be strong, lifeguards are on duty only at times, and you should swim only where the flags allow. The biggest swells come from December to March, October and November often bring clean, powerful waves, and July to September is gentler and good for beginners. Being north-facing, it gets less sargassum seaweed than many beaches. Our photographers are there on the buggy trips we work with that stop at Macao. What we capture here: Open Atlantic surf rolling onto a wide beach; Low headlands above a sweep of sand with no resorts; Buggy crews fresh off the dirt tracks; Surfers, fishing boats and local colour. What is Macao Beach like? It is a wide, mostly undeveloped public beach on the open Atlantic, with surf schools and fish restaurants instead of resorts. It is about 20 to 30 minutes by road from the Bávaro hotels. Is it safe to swim at Macao Beach? With care. Waves and currents can be strong and lifeguards are on duty only at times, so swim only where the flags allow. Is Macao Beach good for surfing? Yes. The biggest swells come from December to March, October and November often bring clean waves, and July to September is gentler and good for beginners. Does Macao Beach get sargassum? Less than many beaches. Being north-facing, it is often clean when bays further south are covered. How do I get my photos from Macao Beach?
