1. Getting into your Cayo Levantado photos
If you still have the bracelet, the QR card or the slip of paper, type the code on the home page and the gallery opens — no account to create, no password to remember. Scanning the QR does exactly the same thing.
If you have no code — none was handed out, it got soaked, it stayed in the hotel — pick your excursion date and take a selfie on the find your photos page, and we match you against everyone photographed that day.
And if you would rather a person looked, message us on WhatsApp with the date, which Samaná excursion you took, and roughly what time you were on the cay. Galleries are organized by tour and date, so those three details find it fast.
| What you have | Where to go | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Bracelet, QR card or code | The home page, or scan the QR | The code, and nothing else |
| Nothing but the date | The find your photos page | Your excursion date and a selfie |
| No code, no exact date | Rough date, excursion and time |
2. What the cay actually gives a camera
The public beach on Cayo Levantado is the picture everyone carries of a Caribbean desert island: soft white sand, luminous turquoise shallows you can wade far into, and palms bowing toward the water. That means the cay hands you one specific frame — leaning palms, white sand and clear water in a single shot — that almost nowhere else on this coast gives you whole.
The shallows are the second photograph. Because you can walk a long way out with the water at your waist, you end up surrounded by turquoise on all four sides, and the wall of swimmers and parasols that ruins most busy-beach pictures simply drops out of the frame.
If you want to see how that looks before deciding anything, the destination page carries a gallery of real photographs from the island.
3. The light, and why the season matters
Cayo Levantado is at its calmest and brightest in the dry season, December to April. Outside it the water loses some of that lit-up turquoise on rough-sea days — and that colour is precisely what people are searching for when they search for these photos.
All along this coast, midday is a hard hour: heavy contrast, sharp shadows under the eyes, and water that reads white instead of turquoise. It is also, given how Samaná excursions are timetabled, when almost everyone steps onto the island. You cannot change that, but it does explain why the pictures your phone brought home rarely look like the day you remember.
4. If you go in whale season
Cayo Levantado is a favourite stop on Samaná day trips, and in winter those trips are often paired with humpback whale watching out in the bay. The season runs roughly mid-January to the end of March — the 2026 season is set for 15 January to 31 March — and our Samaná whale-watching season guide covers the detail.
For photographs, that pairing changes the shape of the day: the whale half happens from the boat and at distance, and the cay is where the portraits get made. If your excursion carried both, nearly every keeper in your gallery will come from the island half.
5. What happens when you open your gallery
Inside, you can look at every photo before deciding anything, and take the whole set or only the ones you like. What it costs is on the pricing page, kept current.
The moment payment completes, every photo downloads in full resolution, ready to print or share, and we also send a backup download link by email and WhatsApp so you never lose access again.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get my photos from Cayo Levantado?
- With the code your photographer gave you — on a bracelet, a QR card or a link — typed on the home page. With no code, pick your excursion date and take a selfie on the find your photos page, or message us on WhatsApp with the date and the tour.
- I lost my Cayo Levantado bracelet — can I still get the photos?
- Yes. Galleries are organized by tour and date, so a selfie search or a WhatsApp message giving the date, the Samaná excursion and the rough time reaches the same gallery without the code.
- When do Cayo Levantado photos look best?
- In the dry season, December to April, when the cay is at its calmest and brightest. Midday is the hardest hour on this whole coast: heavy contrast, and water that reads white instead of turquoise.
- Why is it called Bacardí Island?
- Because of a rum commercial filmed beneath its leaning coconut palms in the 1970s. The name stuck, but the cay is Cayo Levantado, in the middle of Samaná Bay.
