Hoyo Azul Cenote

Hoyo Azul is a freshwater cenote, a spring-fed sinkhole pool, at the foot of a roughly 75-metre limestone cliff covered in plants and orchids, inside Scape Park at Cap Cana. There is no separate ticket: you reach it with a Scape Park admission, which includes hotel pickup from most Bávaro and Punta Cana hotels, and the drive is about 30 to 45 minutes. From the park it is a walk of about 15 minutes through the forest. You can swim: lifeguards are on duty, flotation vests are free, and the water is noticeably colder than the sea. The paths are rugged and uneven, so they are not ideal for strollers or reduced mobility. Plan on half a day or more, since the ticket also covers other trails and activities. The park opens at 9:00, and the pool is quietest right after opening, before the groups arrive. Being inland fresh water, it never gets sargassum seaweed.
